1A

Heading into spring break for alot of clubs. My personal weekly poll looks like this:

1) CP
2) Laurens
3) Clarendon Hall
4) JDA
5) Wardlaw
6) King
7) Newberry
8) Patrick Henry
9) Cathedral Academy
10) Trinity Byrnes
11) St Johns
12) Andrew Jackson
13) Anderson

I still think that positions 8-13 will beat nobody but themselves. King and Newberry might be able to disturb Wardlaw, but it is doubtful. Laurens has an easy path to a region championship now that Wardlaw has been put down. That usually means a first round bye or easy first round at state. It will be interesting to see how CH and JDA play each other this year. I can't find anything on Cathedral, Trinity or St Johns. Maybe CH can help shed some light?

Very interesting. Would like to see Billy pull it off against King. I would like to see him win it because he is such a great guy. Not as sorry as that coach they had a few years ago. :D :D :D Woops!! Best of luck Lady Patriots. I do agree with moon-dog, this week will tell them where they are with the Jackson girl. Parker I am sure is glad to see her back, with her help batting, speed, and fielding. :D :D

1A info ...

JDA Lady Raiders tag-out W.W. King
Michael Young - Sports Editor
Published on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 - 8:51am | Sports

Coming off spring break on a three-game winning steak, Jefferson Davis Academy softball coach Greg Williams was brimming with confidence his team would continue its winning ways April 2 against W.W. King Academy.
Williams' intuition was right on the money.
Fueled by timely hitting and solid pitching, the Lady Raiders rolled past the Lady Knights by a score of 5-1.
With the win, Jefferson Davis Academy improves to 8-1 in overall and 3-1 in region play.
"Our hitting, defense and pitching looked really good today," Williams said.
"We have a few more big games coming up over the next couple of weeks so we need to keep it that way."
After stranding two runners in the first inning, the Lady Raiders got on the scoreboard in their second at-bat.
For the Lady Raiders, Anna Griffin and Katelyn Bell led off the inning with singles. Two batters later, Liz Ann Bonnette brought Griffin and Bell home with a double to deep centerfield.
Down by two runs, the Lady Knights answered in the top of the third inning with a run off two hits and an error.
Neither team could get anything going in the fourth inning as both sides went down in order.
In the fifth inning, however, the Lady Raiders regained their hitting. Haley Eidson reached on a bunt, stole second base and scored off a RBI by Lacy Bowman.
In the sixth inning, the Lady Raiders pushed their lead to 5-1 on runs by Katelyn Bell and Presley Rutland. Liz Ann Bonnette highlighted the inning with a two-run RBI single.
On the mound, Lacey Bowman recorded the win for the Lady Raiders. Bowman pitched seven innings, striking out six batters and only issuing two free bases.
At the plate Bell. Griffin, Bonette led the Lady Raiders' 12-hit assault. Bell went three for three. Griffin was two for three and Bonnette finished two for three with three RBIs.
The top defensive performers were Bell, Caitlin Still, Skyler Williams, Liz Ann Bonnette, Haley Eidson, Makenzie Eidson and Presley Rutland.
"Our girls have a lot to be happy about. We defeated a very good softball team today," Williams said.
"I thought we made the best of our opportunities at the plate and on the bases."

A little older ...

CPA softball
Colleton Prep’s varsity softball team couldn’t exorcise its Jasper County demons Tuesday, losing for the seventh time in eight games to former SCISA Class AA rival Thomas Heyward Academy, 2-0.
The Lady War Hawks (13-5) moved down to SCISA Class A in the offseason, ending what had become a nearly yearly playoff rivalry with the Lady Rebels, but the intensity remained the same for Tuesday’s game because of past meetings, CPA head coach Mallory Crawford said.
Unfortunately, the result was much the same as it has been in recent years, with CPA coming up short in another tight game, unable to get a timely hit. Colleton Prep stranded seven base runners in the game, even leaving the bases loaded in the fifth inning.
“That seems to happen us against Thomas Heyward every time we play,” Crawford said. “I don’t know if its in the girls’ heads because they’re such a rival to us and we’ve only won one out of the last eight, but, for whatever reason, we just don’t play as well against them.”
Thomas Heyward got its first run in the top of the third inning when Kendall Jumper gave up a two-strike, two-out double with a runner at second. Heyward got its second run in the sixth inning.
“The second run was my fault,” Crawford said. “There was a mix-up by me, and a girl scored from third when I told Kendall to throw to first because the runner there hadn’t tagged the bag. I feel like that might have kicked the girls back down a little bit. You feel like you can always get that one run, but two is a different story.”
Jumper allowed just the one earned run on five hits and struck out 10. CPA had four hits as a team.
Colleton Prep was scheduled to face Patrick Henry today in a SCISA Region 1-A game, and then will be off until April 8 for spring break.
