Laurens Academy opened it's season in Charleston this weekend, splitting a pair of games with 3A northwood and 2A First Baptist. In the Northwoods game the teams were evenly matched, both getting 3 hits and commiting 3 errors. NA was able to take advantage of some timely bunting and baserunning to defeat LA 1-0, scoring in the bottom of the 7th on a passed ball. Unfortunately, LA's ace pitcher Alex Satterfield sustained a detatched tendon in his foot and will be out indefinately.
Saturday the Crusaders, behind an 11 strikeout performance by senior Ryland Culbertson, were able to bounce back with a 2-1 win over the defending 2A state champ hurricanes. It was especially encouraging to see the bottom half of our lineup come through with timely hitting and smart base running to help secure the victory.

I must say I am defiantly not a soccer guy. With that said, I'm not sure how good or bad Trinity is. However, FC is actually suppose to be pretty good. They got a couple of Korean kids who can play and Weston Deas (probably was one of The King's Academy's better players) from TKA transferred to FC over the summer. So they got a legit team. Now there's no telling how far they will go in state. FC had a scrimmage with Wilson High School (AAA) and beat them 5-0 if that tells you anything. I wasn't able to make it to the game the other night.

Unfortunate to see Laurens Academy pitcher hurt in the LA-Northwood game; good pitching match-up. Northwood senior Will Walls pitched an outstanding game, 6 and 2/3 innings allowing three hits and 0 runs. Overall an excellent high school baseball game, both teams strong and both exhibited fine sportsmanship.

The injury was one of those freak things. Alex was covering the plate, twisted to get the throw, and felt it pop just before the NA player slid into the plate. It was nobodies fault, just one of those things that happen when you play the game. I was very impressed with the entire NA team, but especially the catcher and first baseman.
We don't have a time frame for Alex's return yet, but looking on the bright side this will give Soph. Michael Knight more experience at SS ( and he performed very well in both games) and allow a couple of our other pitchers a chance to move into the starting rotation, making us that much stronger in the long run.
The LA family would like to thank everyone at Northwoods and First Baptist for providing us the oportunity to play first rate teams and for their warm welcome to their schools. Best of luck on their seasons.

ACS played in the Midland Valley tournament against some pretty good teams. (North Augusta Aiken South Aiken Fox Creek) and got spanked. However the good news is that the team got better each game...We only have 21 between Varsity and JV.. We lost our ace to North Augusta High last year. The problem is pitching of course..this is baseball!! Pitching is always the issue!! We only have 1 sub usually so that makes it real hard to employ strategy. Got a good coach and hopefully the boys will enjoy this greatest game of summer....

TSA closed out the Lake Marion Classic Saturday against Lakewood. They led early and ended up losing by one. I think it was 14-13 or 13-12. Either way, not a bad way to finish against a 3A public school that is a perennial power in their region. I'm not sure who they may have pitched though. They're now 3-3 on the season, but are 2-0 against SCISA teams that aren't very strong. They'll get a huge test tomorrow night against LMA.
