Here are the numbers for the AA schools I got off of schsl.org. The number to the left is state size ranking and the number to the right is the 135 day number used for the current reallignment.

And all those numbers have nothing to do with the football teams....some of the smallest schools nearly always have tough football teams...... |

For anyone to say that a 900 student school does not have an advantage over a 600 student school, when assembling a sports team, is just wrong, period. It's basic mathmatics, folks, the old numbers game, come on. These players aren't recruited, you know. The 600 student team may very well beat the bigger school team, but, there is an advantage, year to year, without question, whether you will admit it or not.

I agree, 300 extra students is bound to mean more athletes for all sports programs in the bigger schools. |

When Calculating this theoretical Strenth of schedule do you take in consideration that we play 2 ea.-3AAA and 1 ea.-4AAAA schools as well as conference foes ? If you added it up by the 4A points system, wonder how it would come out ????? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM .

So then they need to break 2A down into 2 divisions like 4A and 1A....not....Why do you guys complain about everything....Some of the better 2A schools are the smallest schools in 2A....I guess that will be your excuse if you loose a game....Lets face it, You have the large 3A teams and the smaller 3A teams as well. Let's play football and leave that mess out of it.....The road to State in 3A is much easier for ST, TL, Cheraw, Manning, Dillon, Central, woodruff, and Abbeville. I am willing to bet you, any one of these teams would make a run at the 3A title this year. Let's talk football gentlemen. The fact is, we have the best football in the state in 2A right now and it is going to be that way for a long time. I understand that having 300 more students would produce a few more athelete's but I bet you you have about 10 or 15 athelete's walking around the campus right now that are not dressed out and on the team....That's why Southside's program turned around this year. They got a coach in there that figured out how to get more of the athelete's on the field. No disrespect to the smaller school, but you have to play the hand your delt.
Do you know why the majority of the schools that are playing this part of the season are the same schools year in and year out. Why is that so? It's not because of numbers, it's because of tradition. The same schools we are talking about right now are the same schools that was talked about 25 years ago when I was at STHS. I don't care if they put Strom Thurmond in 1A, back in 3A, or even 4A, They will be successful, because they are use to winning down there, just like all of the other teams I named earlier. Yes we have our years when we fall off, but it only last about 2 or 3 years and then we are back strong again for 4 or 5. The superstars of years ago children, grandchildren, and nephews are playing right now at the same schools and the same will be for the next 20 years. We have built tradition in these top schools. It's not about the size of the school, it's about the heart in our children. As fans we expect them to win and don't except less, that's why these message boards are filled every day....Just my opinion on this, but if you really look at it, you will see that it is true.... Guys, no one is complaining just commenting on the fact. This is the system we have and we will play with it. I agree that the traditionally strong programs are going to be good year in and year out no matter what the enrollment numbers are. However, I don't think its a coincidence that Cheraw, Dillon, Chapman(last year), Broome(2 years) and Timberland & Thurmond (this year) are having success in AA. They are all recent drop downs from the AAA level. Their larger student bodies do give them an advantage. Now several of these schools had great success on the AAA level as well so they are good programs but surely you can't deny that larger student bodies mean more potential athletes.

Go tell that crap to Batesburg Leesville, Abbeville and Pageland Central.....three of the smaller 2A schools in the state.....and year in and year out....three of the winningest football teams in the state.....in fact two of those schools are still undefeated as of this week.....but maybe they don't know anything about basic math....just football..... |

I knew a Saluda fan would show up on this thread. Those Saluda fans love to blame their low attendance numbers and high rate of Hispanics who do not play sports on their pathetic athletic programs. They camplain about this every year. Surprisingly enough I agree with beau on this one. Look at Central, Abbeville, and B-L---3 of the smallest AA schools (in fact, B-L really only has about 585 students this year), they are always competitive because they don't spend year in and year out dwelling on how many ways they can use their low attendance to make excuses for not being able to compete with the bigger schools. Heck, B-L just played Lexington this season and they have over 2000 students. Agreed, that they got beat, but they weren't scared to play them and they didn't think for a minute that htey couldn't beat them. It all goes to competiiveness and hardwork. Only 11 kids can be on the field at a time. Panthers 2008-The tradition continues. |

Yes, I agree, But it also gives you the potential to add a few knuckheads to the roster as well. All I'm saying is this, lets play football and stop looking for excuses. What are we teaching our kids. The playing field will never be identical, so why talk about it. These kinds of complants will get the governing bodies to turn 2A into two divisions. I would hate that, because these kids work to hard to not be the clear winner of a state title.....Stuff like this teaches our kids nothing other than how to complain and make excuses for their life. We were a great team at the 3A level, I feel the competition is better at the 2A level. "we do our talking on the field" |

It ain't the size of the dog in the fight that matters, it is the fight in the dog!!
I can tell you first hand that Batesburg-Leesville would play anybody!! The Panther Nation was so glad that BIG 16 Lexington finally agreed to start playing us again! Trust me, in 2009 B-L will be ready for them when they come to our house! The good thing about football is the fact that you can only 11 players at any given time. True B-L Panthers NEVER QUIT!! |
