Here is my preseason opinion for Class AA Boys Basketball 2008-09.
1. Spartanburg Christian
2. First Baptist
3. Bible Baptist
4. Carolina Academy
5. Thomas Sumter
6. Charleston Collegiate
7. Beaufort Academy
8. Pee Dee Academy
9. Colleton Prep.
10. Richard Winn

I feel that Region II Class AA will be very competitive. I feel that coming out of the gate Thomas Sumter and Colleton Prep. will be very strong in that region and are both ranked in my pre-season Top 10. Conspicuously missing from my top 10 are St. John's Christian and Holly Hill. I believe both have the potential to come on strong as the season progresses and truly forsee these two replacing TSA and CPA as the contenders for the region title as the season winds down. However, much work needs to be done between the start and finish line.

When asked how St. John's will do this season my reply is that we will have one of the largest teams in our history with the greatest potential of any preceding St. John's team. However, these boys must prove themselves on the court. I anticipate about 12 or 13 players this season wearing the "Crimson and Royal" of
SJCA.

Yes, we do have an excellent new coach. He is a former assistant coach at Charleston Southern. I attended one of the summer games in which SJCA defeated Cathedral 48-11. I was very impressed with his ideas for a new offense.

When and what did he coach at CSU? Your AD should get AD of the year for getting a Division 1 basketball coach to come to a SCISA AA school. You guys have been been doing well the the past few years, where did your coach move to?

I am told the young man was an assistant men's basketball coach and worked with the Sports Information Department at Charleston Southern as well. Coach Ron (our former coach) is taking some time off this season.

Yes, our AD Coach David Kranz deserves AD of the year -- not only for this great addition to our program, but for all he does above and beyond his job duties at SJCA. Coach K and his wife Becky are loyal donors to St. John's. Coach K donated and installed the new fencing surrounding our football field. I am glad he has made St. John's his home.

I have not really started to breakdown who the returning players are on each team so it is hard for me to discount your top 5, but what would make you include those teams at 3,4,5?

They were not great teams last year and there are a couple of teams out there that made it into the playoffs that have their best players returning.

can someobody give me the breakdown on SCA's returnee's?

I could be wrong but I thought they were graduating 4 of their starting 5 from last year. I have no doubt that their coaching staff and system will have them right there at the end, but I am not sure they should start at #1.

also, I would like any information on any of the upperstate teams that I can get. Returning starters, top players anything that will help me fill in missing data.

Just wondering, what is your new coach's name, and when did he coach at CSU? I have been here at CSU for the last 4 years and there have only been two coaches leave. One is currently at Winston Salem State and the other is at a college in Savannah.

Thomas Sumter should be a serious threat moving down from 3A as should First Baptist. The guy was probably a team manager or Grad Assistant(Stat Keeper). Not trying to say that he is not a good coach, but I doubt very seriously that he was a "true" assistant at CSU.

SCA lost 3 starters!
Bryan Keaton, Demorris Chambers and Nate Morgan are all gone!
These are huge losses for SCA!
SCA does have some good young talent and Mason Crow (4 year starter) is their leading scorer and rebounder and returns this season. They will not be nearly as explosive but should be good and solid. They play a crazy early schedule again so we will know if they are legit early!

SCA is over rated! They lost too much to be a threat. The championship is coming back to the lower state this year!

Region I all the way! I'm calling right now an all region I final four!

I have to agree with region 7 fan! The #1 ranking is REDICULOUS!

Well I did the stat keeping job during the 05-06 season, and the 06-07 season as a student, along with their grad assistants. This guy must have been there at least before 05-06, was he there under Platt? Or does anybody know his name?

I agree with you. This young man must have worked with Platt's crew. I think his first name is Scott...I am thinking he was at CSU probably late 90's or so. He may have kept stats or even been a grad assistant -- but I was told an assistant men's coach. That information may be incorrect. I am on several CSU Boards including the CSU Buc Club Board and do not remember seeing him from my recent involvement at CSU. Unfortunately, I did not catch his last name. Anyhow, I wish him every success in his new role.
