A LOT will depend on which Colleton Prep team shows up. The Warhawk team that whipped Williamsburg Academy, took Hilton Head Prep to the mat for 3 quarters, and dominated Pinewood for the first half, could win big Friday night. The turnover-happy Warhawk team that folded against HHP and Pinewood and apparently didn't show up at all against Cardinal Newman will lose to a very fast, very talented CCS team.

Charleston Collegiate is the Cinderella of the playoffs and I'm picking them to win in a bit of an upset. Congratulations to Summerville boy Kirk Lax in righting the ship on John Island. He's is the latest in a long line of McKissick protegy to turn players into winners.

But, Colleton Prep is a very well coached and a very fundamentally sound football team. It will be a very tough game for CCS and much deserved championship if they can pull it out.

I don't know about the coaching but it sure doesn't hurt to pull in the type of athletes they have. Could be a very close game. The Season vs. the Program. CCS has the talent but CPA has been there before. 5th State appearence in 7 years. Pretty impressive especially cause there's no recruiting involved.

Cinderella would constitute someone who is not supposed to be there at all. N.C. State and George Mason come to mind. This was a great recipe for success for CCS. Take a very watered down classifications with some new schools that are not accustomed to competing in November. Add in a few talented transfers from the local public schools and voila. I give Lax credit for not getting in the way. Good luck to Collegiate in Orangeburg Friday night.

CCS' recruiting class was definitely the difference this year. They didnt just bring in twenty new players they got 25 this season.

My understanding is that Charleston Collegiate has no more than a handful of new student athletes this year - with Eric Pringle obviously being a MAJOR addition.

The Season vs. The Program is a perfect way to describe the matchup. Colleton Prep under Coach Miller is practically a football machine (a Single A Augusta Christian if you will). BUT, do not kid yourself into thinking that Colleton Prep doesn't market itself to student athletes enrolled at other schools. For example, Young and Fisk live more than forty miles from the Colleton Prep campus and had attended St. Paul's Country Day (where they would have made a MAJOR impact on 8 man play) for many years. These students now travel twice as far to school for the opportunity to compete athletically at a higher level.

Now, as long as CPA doesn't make the initial contact, it is not recruiting, it is not a rule violation, and it certainly is not unethical. A number of students from Colleton County (Edisto Beach, Cottageville, etc.) and Charleston County (Edisto Island, Adams Run, Ravenel, Hollywood) have contacted and visited Pinewood over the last few years. Most have also visited Colleton Prep and some (including a decent chunk of the CPA rushing game) have chosen Colleton Prep over Pinewood. Clearly, some students found CPA to be a better fit (either academically, socially, or athletically or some combination thereof). Only the students and their parents can decide what is in their best interest. But, it would be EXTRAORDINARILY NAIVE to think that Colleton Prep and its coaches do not put a hard sell pitch on talented potential student athletes who visit. It would be absurd for them NOT to make that pitch.

let's get real- ccs did not win a game in 8 man 2 years ago. how many players off that team played this year? How many "transfers" have come in the last 2 years. Coaching? give me a break, 11 new players in a scisa school and everybody can be a genius.

Alright C lowe let me break it down to u since u are always on here bashing CCS...There are 6 people that were on that 8 man team that didnt win a game on the team this year out of 20 kids...8 other kids on the team have been at the school for 2 years, while Pringle "Our Best Recruit" as u like to say, actually came to the school last year shortly after football season...and there are 5 kids on the team that came this year, 2 of which get very little playing time....and as for saying we have recruited all of these players is just ridiculus, not once has the school gone out and made first contact with a player, but things dont always work out the way people want, and that is why many of these players contacted the school...and if you think giving financial aid is part of recruiting(which you probly do because you dont seem to know what your talking about), financial aid is required for a scica school to receive an NAIS accredidation, which is a very high honor considering only a handful of schools in the state have received such accredidation(including CCS)...so before you start bashing people, maybe you should find out some facts about what your talking about

Now then for those of you who think CCS is recruiting all of these players
well guess what your worng. Eric Pringle came to CCS last year after football was over because his mom didnt want him getting into gangs and trouble. brown came two years ago because he wanted to go to a good college. he was then offered a full ride to CSU over the summer at a passing camp. Andrew Horne came for the same reason brown did. Hornes dad even coaches for CCS now.there is your "recruiting class"
so now that everyone knows show up to orange burg prep n watch the game
just make sure u on the ccs sidelines

Any new good players that transfer during high school and have an impact on a SCISA sport team will be called transfers. Especially if they haven't been their since like 4K. From my knowledge, CCS is a relatively new school. Guess what new schools get? New athletes!!! Don't get offended when people call you players transfers. I understand that everyone wants to stand up for their school and uphold it's reputation. DCS rep was bashed pretty hard the last couple of years and now it's CCS' turn. Don't worry. When these new 8 man schools move up and people transfer b/c they finally play "real" 11 man football. You can accuse them of transfers too. If you don't like it, hit the weight room and do something about it. Sometime's the kid who plays all year loses the job to the new player in the playoffs. Sometimes the better team loses. Sometimes it's just not meant to be. Life's not fair. You want fair game, move to Canada. Transfers or not. Eric Pringle, Marcus Sampson, and the Singelton kid from Northwoods make SCISA better. The same people complain about SCISA kids not getting the attention SCHSL athletes get. When better overall athletes come to SCISA, better coaches will come, and then more scouts will come. However, Pinewood Prep seems to be getting a lot of national attention with Steed & Jennings, why not show up in the playoffs shut them down and get some of your own spotlight. You gotta beat the best to be the best. If the average parent or athlete doesn't like it, work harder. Hard work, determination, and persistance usually leads to success and thats what SCISA's overall goal is and should be: Success. To get better and better every year. Academically and Athletically.

"CCS is a relatively new school"? I don't think so. It's the old Sea Island Academy under a new name. If you check their website, you'll find that it was founded in 1972.

You're right of course, Silent Knight. But the school disbanded football shortly after the name change. It was down to about 100 students K-12 and was having trouble fielding an 8 man team. Five or so years later, the school has 300 students K-12 and should be moving up to AA in 2010.

StallionJock's point is salient. If CCS only played "home grown" (whatever that means - I assume it means enrolled in kindergarten) players, it would be another five years or so before they could move up from 8 man. Instead, I would expect CCS to have 500-600 students enrolled K-12 by 2012 and to be moving up to AAA.

Young and fisk do live far away but they came to CPA on their own because Country days athletic program is poor. The only marketing done by CPA was all the state championships they were winning. Also, they both pay their own tuition.

The big question is would these kids be at these schools if they were not good athletes, if they are good students as well as good individuals then the best of luck to the school lucky enough to have them.

The high school experience - and therefore "education" - is much more than passing tests and getting grades. There are many reasons why kids go to schools (and many things they learn from each): Better faculty, athletics, fine arts, spiritual emphasis, etc. All of these are part of the total educational experience for most kids. There is nothing wrong with a kid choosing one school over another for athletic reasons, any more than choosing one school over another because they may have a better chorus, or may have a greater spiritual emphasis, or because their math teacher has a higher degree. Depending on who you talk to, they all carry an equal (some even say greater) level of importance. One thing's for sure - there are things you can learn from each that cannot be taught through any of the others - and they are all needed.

"Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains - think about that..."
