Couldn't help but smile at the Eidson 600th win story in the Post and Courier this morning. The guy works hard, develops players, and is a good person.
I also couldn't help noticing that former player Blake Hall was situated next to Eidson in the P and Courier slideshow of the Bishop England game.
Eidson is only 51 and figures to have alot more mileage on his treads, however this photo seemed to suggest that Hall would be the leading candidate to take over when Eidson decides to retire.
I think you answered your own question, Insider. Eidson will coach at Pinewood for another 15-20 years if he so chooses.
If for some reason Eidson WERE to decide to move on, I think the number of applications would be well into the hundreds and would come from all over the East Coast. Pinewood had more than 50 applications to take over a struggling football program and had pretty much narrowed it down to Brock Miller and a couple of former Green Wave assistants when Guerard unexpectedly became available.
An unanticipated basketball vacancy at Pinewood would be wide open. It wouldn't surprise me to see such a vacancy filled by a candidate from an out-of-state independent school (NC, VA or PA, NJ, or even MA) or by a major college assistant coach. Would a Pinewood alum get a serious look? Sure he would. But their last search for a Head of School brought in someone from the U.K. So I don't think you can accuse Pinewood of being overly provincial.

should there be an asterick beside the wins. After all, everyone on here is quick to accuse people and cheating and Pinewood prep is the biggest when it comes to recruiting. So its seems on this board!

Thoughts?
I have heard directly from his mouth he would like to coach Chuck's son. Chuck married a 6'2" volleyball player from Carolina So if you do the genetic math like I did and certainly Pat has you understand why he would want to stick around 14-16 more years. Why quit??? HE loves it and he will keep winning! plus his 6'10" NBA grandson is on the way
Major college assistants don't take jobs at small high schools unless they find some really unfortunate circumstances. I know Pinewood is extremely proud of themselves but let's not go overboard. Besides if some former Summerville guy came available he would probably slide right in.

You would have to think of the coaches that have been around in scisa for a while and have built other programs and won numerous state championships I think. How many coaches out there (girls or guys) could step in and keep winning.
Bill the Butcher, as much as I would like to agree with you, I don't. I do believe their may be 2 or 3 coaches on solid AAAA SCHSL schools. But Pinewood's basketball is a lot different from SCISA football and baseball. They are one of the best teams in the state public or private. A few many SCISA schools can play with AAAA SCHSL teams. Pinewood, SCA, Porter Gaud. I wouldn't put it past a public school coach to go to Pinewood. However, I do believe that he would have to be a good hearted man that has to be a good influence on these kids academically and athletically. He needs to be a father figure to these guys. Also, he would have to have his priorities straight, b/c most public school coaches wouldn't want the pay cut. But I wouldn't put it past a big time coach to go to Pinewood. It's not as far fetched as you'd think. Look at Pinewood's new football coach. And then tell me Summerville was bad in football. A.J. Green, I think not.
Question--is that 600 including only basketball games, or does that include Pat's career as a succesful volleyball coach, too? The article says they haven't had but one losing season, but 29 years means 21 wins a year. Either way, 600 is HUGE. Congrats to Pat.
The 600 wins are BB only. He coached at several other schools before coming to Pinewood. He has had only 1 losing season at Pinewood, that first one when they went 6-22. He has over 200 volleyball wins.
