I saw them Friday night against Hilton Head Prep. Now, it was a frigging monsoon, but I got to see them in person just the same. They are a true AA playoff team. That means they would run through A like that proverbial "knife through butter" without losing a game if they played A football. They can't pass it. The quarterback is mostly a non-factor. He hands off about 98 percent of the time. That said, they don't need to pass it. They ran for almost 275 yards against HHP in all that rain. Their offensive line plays extremely hard and they run sweeps with #28 (best running back if healthy), #30 and #22. #28 didn't play Friday night. He might not play until the playoffs. Then, when you are expecting one of those sweeps to the perimeter, they line up in a wishbone and hand it up the gut to their 235 lb fullback #35. Then, when they are done with that, they line up and do it all over again. And again, and again. If I was coaching against them, I would play man to man press coverage on their tiny WR's and put 9 players within 5 yards of the ball. Defensively, if you can throw it at all, their defensive secondary it pretty susceptible. HHP dropped between 15-20 balls in the rain including two wide open td's in the endzone. |

one of those "tiny wr's" was named wr of the week in savannah 2 weeks ago. and the other is a freshmen subbing in after the senior wr normally in that position can no longer play. So i would say our passing game should still be respected. #28 is out for the season, he has a broken clavicle, and had surgery last tuesday. hopefully he will be ok by january so he can still compete in the kicking finals in atlanta, hes probably one of the best kickers in the league.

So where was the Coach Friday night CavFan? |

Our Coaches were on the field, coaching. Our fans were behind the fence, cheering. Ask them, each party enjoys their present role and desire no other. I am very upset. This topic has been devastating to me, my family, and my friends. All I can do is pray about it. Fan of 2 has truly hurt the relationships among a lot of good people. Our Head Coach is my cousin who I love, respect, and adore. He is the son I never had. I am very proud of him. Statements against him or his coaching staff or coaching style personally hurt me as well. I would ask SJ Dad to consider that before making remarks out of frustration. Football Fan #1 -- If you would like to continue this topic with me, please, let's have a personal conversation and not over a message board. I am so sick of seeing this topic on here. |

No offense Cav fan I was just a little confused. I will admit that im not the brightest person on this board. I didnt know that he was a fan. I thought he could have been a volunteer assistant which many small scisa schools have. There is nothing wrong with fans cheering and I certainly didnt mean to hurt anyone. I was just reading some of the post and some of the statements said sort of lead me to believe that one of your fans was actually a coach. Sorry for the mix up.

I agree--talk to someone in private, invite them to a private thread on here or keep your mouths closed.
Your team is not just made up of players...it is made up of Players, Coaches, Assistants, Parents, Fans and Community. All of those working together makes a successful team. It is easy to sit in the stands and think, "That player should've ___" or "If I were coach, I would've ____". I do it myself sometimes but what you all need to keep in mind that as a team we all have the same goal and to do that we all have to work together to be winners. (And please keep it off of message boards that players read!) Years ago, I would tell my son "Why did you miss that tackle?" or "Why didn't you catch that ball?" One day, he looked me in the eye and said, "Well, you think I wanted to look like the idiot who lost the game for my team??" hmmmm....Powerful words that I will never forget when I think about insulting others (whether it is our coach or our team) |

One more thing--
Though I know none of them personally, I just would like to say I have great respect for our coaches. They are doing a wonderful job and obviously inspire our players to greatness while keeping with Christian standards. And for the 'Fence Crew'--(I apologize for not knowing all their names)The boys look to that fence each week for support and encouragement along the way. Sometimes it is for a smile and other times it is for a nudge towards improvement. |

Don't be so touchy. My post was a compliment towards your team, not negative. The wide receivers are very small. Maybe tiny was a bad choice of words. Unfortunately for you that small freshman is going to have to keep subbing for the kid that can no longer play. That hurts your passing game even more. The lost of #28 is devestating. I did not know that he had broken his clavicle. #22 was a good runner, but he is not nearly as explosive as #28 was. I still say that in the playoffs, if I am the coach for Calhoun or Thomas Sumter (whichever team you play in the first round) I would put as many people in the box as possible (9) and dare you to throw it. I would feel that anytime we could get you to throw it, you would be doing us a favor. |

Just to follow up on SJ Caballero's thoughts:
Sports in general (and football in particular) are exciting, emotional events. Since it is easier to make great plays and make the right calls from the stands than it is while your actually on the field, I can see why fans would get caught up in the action and say inappropriate things they probably wouldn't think of saying in their everyday life. So, I agree, go to the games, cheer the good plays and encourage the players after they've made a mistake. After the game, congradulate players from both sides and pat the officials on the back. i agree with that, im surprised that hhp did not do that last week, and if they did, why it didnt work at all. were already as u said 98% run, and with the rain, that made us 99.9

While I'm at it:
We should also appreciate the coaches - they're doing a lot of work for the joy of working with the kids and the love of the game. There should be a "t" in congratulations If the field is wet Friday night, my upset special could bite me in the rear. |

Our "Fence Crew" of men have been faithfully serving our students for many, many years. This "crew" is led by Dr. Daniel and Mr. Sparky. They have been an integral part of school spirit and school life as long as I can remember. They touch the life of every player that has ever attended Lord Berkeley or St. John's. They truly care about their "children" at the school and the players know it. My wife and I are former players many years removed from Lord Berkeley. Dr. Daniel helped both of us thru college financially and checks on us to this day. I was extremely upset Saturday night. I personally witnessed one of the assistant coaches yelling at Dr. D. It upset my wife as well. Last year the same assistant coach made a rear of himself at the Wardlaw game when he unleashed on Mr. Sparky. You know, these two men have been at SJCA many years. The St. John's family is eternally loyal to Dr. D. and Mr. Sparky. They help with every sport and all aspects of school livelihood. They define school spirit. It just amazes me that we never face this subject of "do those two know there role" except when it comes to the football coaches. I can only say that it is the insecurities and jealousies of an immature football coaching crew that fuels this. I have decided that if I witness another "melt-down" by a member of the coaching staff against either of these great icons, I will speak to the coaching staff personally. It is inapropriate and does not set a "christian" example for the boys. You will find that Dr. D. and Mr. Sparky always treat the coaches, players, and SJCA family with love and respect. They deserve the same treatment. Thank you for letting me mount my soapbox and have my say. |

SJCA isn't large enough to stop St. Andrews. I give the halfback a touchdown in the 4th because he's talented, but he's not going to score when his o-line is getting dominated all game. St.Andrews will run the ball, hog the clock, and rack up some points.

Whoop Whoop,
Which game did you see to know the strengths and weaknesses of St Johns? |

There are always lots of variables I don't really want to get into discussing them because I do not want to take anything away from a great effort and win by the St. Andrew's kids on their homecoming night. But I agree with your assessment. It was 99.9 percent run. I only remember SAS throwing two passes. They might have thrown three. Not to mention, that in those conditions, I think HHP could have had 15 in the box and still not have been able to tackle the SAS running backs. |
