North Carolina prevailed in the waning moments with a 14-8 victory. Eric Pringle of Charleston Collegiate returned a kickoff for a TD and Brett Whalen of Heathwood Hall hit William Cubbage of Hilton Head Christian with the conversion pass to put SC up 8-7 with two minutes left. But, SC was unable to hold the lead.

I understand that Ryan Steed of Pinewood was SC Defensive Player of the game. Not sure about SC offensive player but wouldn't be suprised if it was Pringle.

From the Charlotte Observer:

OASIS ALL-STAR CLASSIC
Latin trio leads N.C. to victory
All of game's scoring happens in final 2:32

SALISBURY --The scoring was bound to come, and it did.

In a game where North Carolina turned the ball over deep inside South Carolina's territory six times, it was the quick scoring by both teams in the closing minutes that defined the third Oasis All-Star Shrine Classic on Saturday at Catawba College.

Braden Hanson hit Brentin Bersin for a 41-yard strike with 2 minutes, 32 seconds left and Ben Ashcraft ran in from 1 yard out with 21.1 seconds left to give North Carolina a 14-8 come-from-behind victory.

The Charlotte Latin teammates swept the post-game awards, earning most valuable player (Hanson), most outstanding offensive player (Bersin) and most outstanding defensive player (Ashcraft).

"I think the fact we were able to move the ball so well let us know we were beating ourselves," Hanson said. "and if we could eliminate the turnovers we knew we could get it into the end zone."

Even after North Carolina broke through, it wasn't over.

Eric Pringle (Charleston Collegiate) ran the kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown and a two-point conversion pass from Brett Walen (Heathwood Hall) to William Cubbage (Hilton Head Christian) gave South Carolina an 8-7 lead with 2:13 left.

Then with 2:10 left, North Carolina began the final drive. Nine plays later, helped by a 37-yard catch by Cameron Penrose (Fayetteville Christian), Ashcraft scored.

"I knew with the collection of offensive linemen we had, I knew we could get three yards," said Ashcraft, who had three carries inside the five before scoring. "I knew we could get the push."

Is Hermann the tall QB? He looked very poised under constant pressure. He got rocked by a big DT late in the game, I hope he is ok. We, SCISA, represented very well. NC just made two big plays late and that was the difference.

I'm pretty sure this is the 3rd one for SCISA. It replaced the SCISA/GISA games if I'm not mistaken.

This is the third. SCISA won the first, NC the next two.

Can anyone post any coverage of the shrine bowl besides the article from the Charlotte Observer? Any stats? There has been no coverage from The State newspaper, not even an article on the SC roster.
