1. Hilton Head Prep
2. Heathwood Hall
3. Pinewood Prep
4. Northwood Academy
5. Orangeburg Prep
6. Ashley Hall
7. Augusta Christian
8. Wilson Hall
9. Cardinal Newman
10. Porter Gaud

Losses and graduation have hurt girls AAA more than any other classification. Asia Dozier left Heathwood to attend Spring Valley. Alexandra Fuller and her class of seniors that won 7 total state championships at Hilton Head Prep have all graduated.

Heathwood returns two of the best players in SCISA in Dickerson and Brandner. HHP returns it's system that has won 6 of the last 10 titles. Those two teams are my pick to rematch in the championship game.

Pinewood Prep consistently has as much talent as anyone in SCISA and I don't doubt that this year will be any different.

Northwood is the biggest team in the state with a starting front line going 6'5 and 6'0 at the two frontline spots.

Orangeburg Prep has the best player in region 1 and the region is wide open with the graduation of all of it's best players from last year and the loss of Thomas Sumter to AA.

Pinewood's Beatty will get to show this year that she can coach. The only question mark for her right now is who to put at the point. For the first time she will be able to put five very talented players on the floor with talent on the bench to relieve them. Looking forward to a fun season.

Ranking them third in the state may be premature at this point. As with any program with new faces it may take a few games for the team to gel and find their personality.

It's as much by default as anything else. They have as much talent as anybody and they made it to the final four last year so I might as well put them up there early.

The thing is, this is BY FAR the toughest region in any division of boys or girls in SCISA. Literally 5 teams have a shot right now to win the region championship. HHP, Northwood, Pinewood, Ashley Hall and Porter Gaud will all beat up on each other and who knows what the region will look like come tournament time.

Northwood will be tough this year. With the addition of some JV players moving up who have AAU experiece and are super quick, they should be better on the defensiver end. They will definitely have depth in the guard positions. Dotson is definitely fired up for her senior year. I can guarantee they will be better conditioned than opponents. I do believe NOrthwoods best years are to come in the next 3-4 seasons.

How can you guarantee that Northwood will be better conditioned than everyone else in their region? How do you know what everyone else is doing in their preseason conditioning?

I am not saying that Northwood will not be very well conditioned, but to say they will be better than everybody else might be just a bit obtuse.

After talking to people that saw Northwood's group at camps and AAU over the summer, it still appears that the strength of their team is in the post and that their guards can be pressured.

My understanding is that Northwood's best player is a 7th grader that is not yet allowed to play on the varsity.

I do hope that Northwood's best years are to come in the next 3-4 years because it appears that Hilton Head Prep's best years are also to come in that same time frame so it will be good to see those two teams battle each other again like the early 2000's when they were in the same region.

You're right I can't guarantee it. That was a figure of speech. If they have a weakness it won't be the fact that they can't run with teams in the region. I look forward to watching great basketball over the next several years in this particular region. Good Luck to all!

How well will they handle the basketball? This has seemed to be an issue for them since Ashley graduated. They haven't had point guards that handle the ball very well and when you play against teams like Hilton Head Prep, you have to have at least two very good ball handlers.

I think they will be pretty good, but time will tell.

God help us all if HHP's best years are yet to come. Is Candace Parker in the eighth grade at Prep?

No, the youngest Brunori girl is an 8th grader. Talk around the program is that she could be the best player HHP has ever had.

But from what I hear, their top 10 includes 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, 1 freshman and 3 8th graders.
