Boys A - Newberry should also be a factor. Winner of that conference between them and Laurens should be the upper state #1 and be on track to meet MBC in the finals. The other will have to meet them in the semis...

Whats the inside scoop on LMA and Florence Christian havent heard much talk about them?

Well at least we know florence Christian basketball can't be any worse than their football team. Talk about a 3a size school getting whipped by 2a teams every week. Noone needs to talk about 3a teams except for Pinewood and PG. That may be unfair to say but its true.

KSU...are Clark and Sulek really the 2 most winningest coaches in Scisa history? Doesn't the coach at Pinewood have over 600 wins? Surely there are a few other coaches out there with over 400 and 500 wins I would think. Maybe they havent won as many State titles but they still have as many wins? Just wondering.
Also, you mentioned more SCISA schools need to adopt the style of play that PG and HHPrep (girls) use...are there no other teams around that do that? I know SCA boys play a trap the whole game...then again I think thats a 1-3-1 half court trap. Maybe some of the up and coming younger coaches in Scisa will bring that exciting style of play back. |

Either I mistyped or you misunderstood. I didn't mean that they are the winningest coaches in SCISA history, just two of them. I am not big on total wins, lots of coaches can pile up 20 win seasons by not playing tough competition. Obviously, Coach Eidson has won a ton of games (over 600) and has won numerous state championships. He has to be included in any discussion about coaching history. Heck, Coach Basirico at Hilton Head Prep is approaching 450 wins I believe and has a number of state champioships. I was just making a statement about style and those two coaches specifically. I don't know Coach Clark's numbers exactly (if anyone does, I would love to have them), but I know that Coach Sulek will approach about 290 wins as a SCISA coach this season with only about 35 losses. This will be his 10th season. I would say that an average of 29-3 with 6 state championships adds credibility to his system. I would start to add the Spartanburg Coach to that list. His up-tempo pressure style causes tons of turnovers and havoc and has allowed him to be very successful. I also think he has had the best kids in AA the last few years, but that does not in any way diminish his accomplishments. Coach Pearson used to use a 1-3-1 halfcourt trap with his girls at P-G when they won their state championship. It was pretty flat up top (more like a 3-1-1, but it was very effective because of their length and athleticism in the middle of it. Other than that, there are no schools that I can think of that devote their whole style to pressure defense. All coaches have some kind of press for when they are down 15 with 5 minutes left to go, but if it is good enough to get them back in the game at that point, why isn't it good enough for them to start the game with and try and build that lead? |

It's not that the Pee Dee area won't have some decent teams. They absolutely will. Especially on the girls side in AA. In AAA, they don't have any teams that can compete. Trinity Collegiate's girls will be a contender and there will be others, but I don't think anybody will come close to Bible Baptist's girls this year. Wait until you see their transfer. She might be a top 10 player in South Carolina public or private regardless of classifications. She averaged almost 18 ppg for Jenkins High School in a very tough AAAA league in Savannah last year. I actually think I am going to pick Bible Baptist to sweep the AA championships this season. |

I will agree that SCA has had some of the better players over the past years, but I will say their win 2 years ago in the Semis against Dillion was one of the best games that have been played over the years at the Exhibition Center. There was not one team in all classifications that would out athlete that team at all five positions (by no means does this mean they were the best team in SCISA). The big kid inside almost tore the goal down on one of his dunks in that game! I think they only lost 1 game before the Semis. With a lot of fresh faces coaching in SCISA. I think you will see more up tempo play. I think that SCISA basketball is starting to get more athletic as well. |

Newberry's team will be very young this year, just like Laurens last year. Scott will have them ready to play but they may be a year away from competing for the championship. Hakkaa Palle! Hakkaa Palle! Hakkaa Palle! |

Is bible baptist new to scisa? How can a school (or team) noone really knows about win the state title in just a year or two. Must be nice to have alot of schools in that area to choose from...sounds like this one girl will be unstoppable. So Their girls are picked to win it all...what about their boys? Are they loaded as well. |

I spoke with the Bible Baptist boys coach recently and he said they will be better than last yr and they had I want to say a 6"4 sophomore or jr (cant recall which one he said) transfer in, so who knows? That coach down there is going to have him a state title if not this yr, it will be in the NEAR future. |

I think the Pee Dee AA boys teams can be very competitive on the state level this year. It will be interesting to see how many teams get to go to state this year. I think that our region and the Charleston area region will be the most competitive this year and a lot of that has to do with the number of teams in each region. Without knowing too many specifics about each team at this time, I can only offer insight based on what I've heard and from last years performances.
Carolina- Carolina is Carolina. Solid fundamentally and well coached. Won't blow anyone away with their athleticism but will win close games because of their FT shooting and toughness. Contender Byrnes- Supposedly had one of the tall kids from Trinity transfer in. They are good at what they do and that is being very physical. Chad Scott is a great athlete and usually scores about half of their points. Should be an upgrade but will struggle with teams that try to outrun them. Contender Marlboro- Lost all of their inside presence but still have their guards. They will run four guards and press the daylights out of you but can't compete in half court games. Almost the complete opposite from Trinity. Their numbers hurt them because they can't recover from long term injuries (as evidenced by last year), but they should still be a contender. Contender Trinity- Lost one of the big kids, and supposedly gained a pretty good guard from a transfer. They will be teams that try to play the way Trinity wants to play (walk it up and try to pass it inside), but will struggle against pressure and running teams. Middle of the Pack Dillon Christian- Has a new coach who will be great for those kids. I'm not sure what's going on in football but he is one of the finest people you will ever meet. That being said DCS should be pretty good this year. They won't be deep but they have good athletes who have a good skill set. As long as Coach McLauren can keep them from self destructing they should contend. Middle of the Pack King's- Lost their top scorer and leader in Jordan Burns, but still has a couple of good players. However, no inside threats coupled with a reliance on shooting the 3 in their half court offense will hurt them. Will be a streaky team but ultimately I look for them to stay in the middle of the pack. Middle of the Pack Pee Dee- Lost a lot... Still have Fincannon and good coaching, but not a lot in terms of replacing lost talent. It will be a rebuilding year, but should steal a game here and there. Bottom Feeder Williamsburg- Hopefully they still have Coach Stack, because he was great for that school and a very good coach. I'm pretty sure they lost most of their team to graduation so they are probably in the same boat as Pee Dee, but give Stack some time and he will have them competitive. Bottom Feeder |

fanofbball:
Bible Baptist is a small (AA) private school in downtown Savannah. They are the third school in Georgia to join SCISA following St. Andrew's and Augusta Christian. They have been members of SCISA for a couple of years now. I might be off by a year, but I think they joined SCISA for the 2006-07 school year. Because of their location, they were included in the mixed AAA/AA region that included Hilton Head Prep, Hilton Head Christian, Thomas Heyward, Beaufort Academy and St. Andrew's. This hampered them a little bit in the first couple of years because they had to play the AAA teams on their schedule. This year, with the realignment, they are now in an all AA region. This will be very beneficial for them and Beaufort Academy both. They won't have all the guaranteed losses that come against the AAA teams on their record. They are already starting to make noise in Single A football and will be a very tough out in the playoffs. In basketball, the boys finished the regular season 18-8 and 7-3 in region 4 with a win over Hilton Head Christian's boys being their biggest win of the season. I believe they lost in the semifinals of the state tournament to Charleston Collegiate. Jerrell Richards was a freshman last year and I believe that Tevin Thomas returns also. Those two guys averaged about 40 a game by themselves. The girls finished something like 10-16 and 2-8 with 6 of those losses coming to HHP, HHCA and THA. They didn't make it to the playoffs, but after only winning a couple of games the previous year, the 10 wins was a huge jump. They are coached by former Hilton Head Christian Coach Kenny Conroy who has done a very good job with them. |

AA Boys Regions:
Region I - The SEC of AA boys basketball. May be just as hard to win this conference as it is to win the state tourney. CCS returns two great players from a runner-up squad. BBS made the semis last year with a bunch of young kids. Beaufort will contend because they have one of the best players in the conference. FBC made the AAA semis last year. They lost some players, but they will still compete. Cathedral lost a lot, but made the semis last year. Any of these teams could win the conference and win the whole thing. Region II - Holly Hill had a good record coming into the tourney last year and were pretty young if I remember correctly. St. John's should compete well (just ask CAVFAN#1). Thomas Sumter is also moving down from AAA I believe. I think these three are your leaders out the gate. Region III - SCA should be the early favorite. WW King finished second last year but lost their two best players to graduation - however, Gibson will have them competitive by January. Richard Winn should return just about everyone from a team that just missed the playoffs last year. Greenwood finished last a year ago and lost their best player to graduation. They will be young this year. Oakbrook is only playing a limited varsity schedule. Region IV - I will be shocked if Carolina is not in the mix - they always are. How athletic will Dillon be? The Kings made the playoffs last year, as did Marlboro - but I know both lost some pretty important players. This conference should be wide open, shouldn't it? Going to be a lot of fun... SCA hosts The Kings Academy (Region IV) Nov. 21st and travels to Bible Baptist (Region I) on Jan 30. These games will answer many questions about region vs. region in AA.
