I dont have a dog in the fight. I just enjoy SCISA football because it reminds me of how the game used to be played a long time ago in my day. Small numbers, going both ways, smaller players, etc.

I'm not going to single anyone out, but does anyone find it innappropriate for people who are players, coaches, or are in some other capacity a member of the team posting on here? I mean, it's one thing to post a score or relevant info on the team, but all of the trash talking and bosting seems a little over the top. Think coaches know their kids post on these sites? I would think most coaches would be ticked if they read some of the stuff. Maybe I'm too old school,, but it seems real bush league to me for players to be doing commentary on their own teams and themselves.

you make a good point dwight..football in our great southland evokes a great deal of emotion...i have been guilty in years past of being too hard on coaches...but never EVER players...the bottom line is that there is a respectful way to get a point across without all the "trash talking" and berating of others...most all of these men coaching athletics are doing it because they love the kids and the sport and they understand the valuable life lessons athletes learn on the field of play so as to better prepare them for a responsible and productive life...we forget that high school coaches are EXTREMELY important to the development of young men...think about how many times you have heard a grown man speak of the great influence his high school coach had in his life. and the young men? they are just all trying to find their way in this world during a tough age...therefore it is incumbent upon us to encourage and support where we can and be constructive in our criticism in the proper venue and at the proper time when we feel it will edify, enlighten, educate and ultimately ENCOURAGE...Having said this there will still be those who will post improper comments on this forum. the kids you have to overlook and hope that their coaches are setting good examples so they will understand the VALUE of the excellent point you are making. Lastly i for one have been extremely impressed with the character of athletes in SCISA. i feel blessed my son is playing with and competing against such fine young men. Sincerely ACS parent

Good perspective. I'm specifically talking about kids who are on the team, coaches, boosters, etc posting on themselves in a boastful way.

Like I said in an earlier post. Its a real busch league move to identify yourself as having any part of a team. But, seems like there are a good many out there, that simply do not care and just don't get it....

School spirit is definitely important in many ways. It inspires and motivates athletes, gets other students and faculty involved in athletics, and its also a definition of school pride. In saying that, I think its important to state that some schools take this to the extremes. I think this opinion is commonly shared amongst several users. In particular on this message board, there are principals, board members, coaches, and players "trash talking" and overwhelming other topics. Not only do we have to deal with that, but also the fact that every other topic is about a particular school. As higher ups within a school (coaches, teachers, board members, principals) it is important not to identify yourselves as you have. Unfortunately, we all know without it ever being directly stated who you are. This makes a mockery of the athletic department/school. Most coaches wouldn't want their supporters acting in this manner, nor would they want their athletes to act in this manner. Hopefully, the schoolS that this applies to will take this message to heart and give us all a little break. As professionals, our team spirit and involvement on this board should also be professional

I disagree.

I enjoy seeing the coaches and players posting their thoughts and comments here. They have (or should have) a unique perspective on the games they are playing and I would like to hear what they have to say about these games.

I agree that having coaches and/or players "talking trash" or belittling opponents is a bad idea. Totally unsportsman-like.

However, I think if any of the current players are making inappropriate comments, that behavior is ultimately self-correcting. There is only going to be one champion in each class and it usually is NOT the hard-working, talented, well-coached teams that can win the championships talking trash on this site.

(I have not noticed any coaches making inappropriate remarks here, but that could be my lack of familiarity with their sign-on names)

The trash-talking losers are eventually going to get stomped on the field whereupon they will shut up and go away (hopefully learning a lesson about running their mouths or keyboards in the process).

Therefore, I think players and coaches should be encouraged to post their comments about the games and let the rest of us wankers argue and whine about what we watch but can no longer take part.

Just my thoughts.

There's a difference in informative, insightful posts such as the occasional post by the Cathedral or SCA coach and the obnoxious braggart comments by others in a trash talking manner. For example, all the stuff posted by players/school "family" before the SJCA/WA game and the other stuff on here this week. I guess the saying pride comes before the fall was espescially prophetic that week.

I completely agree. As one of those who walks the fence and cheers for his boys, I enjoy bragging about their accomplishments, and lament their losses.
I try to refrain from too much trash talking, and in fact usually post nothing about other teams , except in response to other threads. But oh, its so much fun how can we resist!
I guess I'm just one of those has been wankers!
( I love the word wanker it's so veddy veddy British!) Wink

its one thing to be a sideliner bragging about your boys occasionally, and its another to be a school administrator/principal/head coach and identifying yourself after making obnoxious posts multiple times a day

Leave the posting to the has beens and never was' of the world.Let your play do your talking. There's a reason most coaches prohibit their players from posting on here.

I've been a member of this board for about 6 or 7 years and when coaches and players post they usually say something they regret or end up getting trashed by others.

At the risk of beating a dead horse (or the continuing flogging of that dead horse);

Briefly -

Runaround, you are right, but I haven't seen any admins, headmasters, or coaches posting anything obnoxious. Could be my lack of familiarity with the posters.

Whiplash, that is certainly the safe way to play it. But again, I would like to hear what the folks in the trenches have to say about the games. They see and know stuff that is hidden from the rest of us.

newfan, you are also right. They probably don't know any better. Therefore, let them post something obnoxious, stupid, or inflammatory and let the other posters speak to let them know that is not acceptable. If they don't know any better, how are they going to learn unless they do something stupid and get corrected?

IMHO, when people learn, they learn by making their own mistakes.

Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment.

I would encourage the current players and coaches to post positive comments about their football games and experiences here. I think it would be good for all of us.

I would think that when a coach comes on here, he should ID himself, just as dwightshrute has mentioned our coach doing. And I think it is great when a coach or player jumps on here, they should be fans too. I only disagree that the coaches, and players, comments do not make a mockery of their programs, but rather they REFLECT their programs. Our coach works very hard with a group of young men to teach them how to be men. The football at Cathedral will come, but we are proud of the lessons learned and the way that our boys are learning to carry and present themselves. This is a direct reflection of the coach, as it is when they post, a direct reflection of the program they run. So if you have an issue with the postings, it is probably that you should have an issue with those programs and coaches.
