From the Times & Democrat

WALTERBORO — A rain-soaked field couldn’t keep tempers from flaring or the War Hawks from running Friday night, as underdog Colleton Prep (6-2) shocked visiting Calhoun Academy (5-1) 27-14 in a SCISA Class AA non-conference matchup.

Despite scoring on their opening drive to jump to an early 6-0 first-quarter lead and outgaining Colleton Prep 264-248 in total yards on offense, four turnovers and an untimely ejection of star quarterback Andrew Robinson ultimately cost the Cavaliers in the meeting.

Robinson was tossed after a shoving match with Colleton Prep outside linebacker Mason Cargill after Robinson apparently hit Cargill from behind on a punt return. Coaches were able to stop the fracas before the benches cleared, but both Cargill and Robison were sent to their respective locker rooms following the fray.

Calhoun led 14-12 at the time, but following the melee, Colleton Prep surged to life in what head coach Brock Miller said was the most fired-up his team had been all season. War Hawks’ tailback Parker Headley rushed three times for 22 yards on the ensuing drive and finally plunged through for the go-ahead touchdown with no time remaining in the third quarter. He converted the 2-point conversion attempt to put Colleton Prep ahead 20-14.

Trez Weinges took over the helm as the Cavaliers’ signal-caller, but couldn’t bring them back. He threw two critical interceptions on Calhoun’s final two drives — one of which was returned 84 yards for a touchdown by Colleton Prep corner Jonathan Hill — to allow the War Hawks to pull off the upset.

“The playing conditions were tough and the playing field was bad, and they just adapted to it better than we did,” Calhoun head coach Adam Jarecki said following the loss. “The rain limited some of the things we could do on offense. We were able to throw one touchdown pass, but obviously we couldn’t do what we like to do — spread people out and run wide. We had to keep it between the tackles a lot, and that’s not necessarily our strength.

“We also had some costly turnovers that gave them great field position, and they were able to capitalize on it. We’ve got to do a better job of taking care of the football especially in those kind of conditions.”

Though it may not have been the Cavaliers’ strength, it was certainly where they were most prolific, Bryan Love led Calhoun with 111 rushing yards on 13 attempts, while Trez Weinges rushed 11 times for 46 yards. Unfortunately, their efforts couldn’t match that of Colleton Prep’s Parker Headley. Headley, the Lowcountry’s second-leading rusher with 1,233 yards coming into Friday’s game, racked up 168 yards and two touchdowns to lead Colleton Prep.

Headley would now be the Lowcountry's leading rusher as Northwood's Uriah Singleton was held to 3 net yards rushing last night at Pinewood.

Laurens Academy - 34
Clarendon Hall - 8

LA 8-0
CH 4-4

this was one of the hardest hitting games I've seen this year. Lots of bumps and bruises. On an Interception by LA linebacker J. T. Lee a hard tackle reinjured his ancle, and at the same time a CH player had his leg broken. Nothing dirty from either side; just lots of hard hitting clean football.
Best of luck to CH on the rest of their season.

Glad to hear he didn't break his leg. When he was taken off on the streacher that was what I heard.
I hope Sailesberry just has a bruised or sprained wrist. That young man can really play the game, and he and no.12 appear to be the leaders for your team.
Best of luck on the rest of the season.
