Da Bone is correct. Also, playing in the public school league interests more students. The perception, right or wrong, that "ACS doesn't play anybody" hurts enrollment with student-athletes. Eagles Landing Christian, a former member of the GISA, joined the GHSA the same time ACS joined SCISA. ELC was a second tier AAA in GISA. They are currently ranked 4th in GHSA A. There are two conclusions here, there is little difference between public school league A and private league AAA and ELC improved with the addition of more student-athletes. The Atlanta Journal covered this story last year and the headmaster at ELC basically stated the same thing. I believe the better SCISA AAA teams would win regularly in SCHSL A.

CCES was demolished in the first round of the SCHSL playoffs by Whitmire, which isn't even close to being a great 1A team. B-E was smacked in the first round of the 2A playoffs this year. Neither of these teams are ever a factor in the SCHSL 1A or 2A playoffs. C-N and Ben Lippen have both played 1A schsl schedules in the past and have not done well at all. A whole lot of speculating and assuming going on. There are some very good 1A teams like Lake View, B-E, Blackville-Hilda, Ware Shoals, etc. Let alone 2A teams like Abbeville, Newberry, Broome, Cheraw.

I believe that certain teams from over the years could have been competitive in A or AA and could possibly have beaten 1 or 2 AAA teams. Hammond this year would have definitely been competitive and Heathwood, Wilson Hall, LMA,and Porter-Gaud could have beaten a few A or AA teams but they probably would not have been .500. SCISA schools do not have the depth like public schools do. A lot of guys play both ways and a lot of teams only have 25 or so players. Teams like Lake View, Blackville-Hilda, Lamar, Cheraw, etc. would easily beat most SCISA teams. Some schools like Hammond would give these schools a run but would more than likely lose.
All that being said, we are comparing apples to oranges. Most public schools have a decently sized roster. Most SCISA scools can only muster up about 25-40 players; even AAA schools. The difference in SCISA and SCHSL is overall athletecism. I am not saying public schools don't have athletes. They have specific people who are way more athletic than any single person in SCISA. I am saying that overall, SCISA has a better average of talent because there is such a lower number of students. A lot of SCISA people play two or more sports. I have known people in SCISA who play 4 sports. In football, a lot of guys are playing both ways; especially on teams that only have 25-30 players. I'm trying to start the stupid argument of "are public schools or private schools better."This is just my opinion.
