In my opinion, I think they should wait until after the CWS to start the draft. These kids have enough pressure without worrying where they'll go in the draft. All of the other Pro organizations draft in the off season, why doesn't the MLB.

How 'bout them Hornets!!!

You are right on with your opinion. Just this last Thursday, batting practice times were swapped at Chapel Hill so that Josh Horton, Luke Petkonen and Andrew Carrignan could watch the draft. Too much pressure on student atheletes.

I agree with your opinion in theory, but realistically the hope is to get the kids signed and play at least 1/2 a season in their big clubs minor league system. There's a big jump in talent between the minors and the bigs. I wouldn't want a multi million dollar signee sitting around from the end of the season until spring training.......especially with as many high school kids that get signed nowadays. Not to mention the fact that these kids could get hurt in that span doing other recreational activities.

the percentage of the guys who are still playing in the Supers while the draft is going on is very small. Why make the rest of the guys wait just because a few guys are still playing. I do think they should have had it on Tuesday or Wednesday when there were no games being played, but overall I dont see a problem with having it while the tournament is still going on

and the draft didnt seem to bother Horton too much yesturday...he was like a one man wrecking crew

I think that having the draft during the tournament is alot of pressure on the kids. However, that pressure benefits some of them. I remember a few years ago when Landon Powell was the catcher at USC. We had just won our regional when it was announced that he had been drafted in the 10th round. He had been projected to go much higher. In the super regionals, I think he hit 4 homeruns and drove in about 9 RBI's.

I heard today that Jack Leggett -HC Clemson is appealing to MLB to delay the draft until the end of the CWS. He said that was why Moskos did not pitch well last Thurs. Leggett seems to feel that all the MLB draft hype got to his team.

I agree that the draft needs to be moved back, so teams can see the players complete their seasons before the draft, but I don't think Leggett can honestly say that the draft caused Moskos to not pitch as good as normal Roll Eyes
