The one thing that I do know that NC is first in. First in Flight. I've seen that on the license plates for years.

Good point Wildcat Fan. That was a great series. It's a shame those two teams had to play each other as they both probably should be going to Omaha. If the Gamecocks had ANY kind of bullpen, the series might have turned out differently. Good luck to the Tar Heels in Omaha.

Iowa was the first state to accept the Morrill Act in 1862, making Iowa State University the first university designated as a land-grant university. The first land-grant university newly created under the Morrill Act of 1862 was Kansas State University, established on February 16, 1863. The oldest land-grant university is Rutgers University, which was founded in 1766. Don't know about the whole land grant university thing, but UNC was the first public university to admit a student, as well as the first to award degrees to students.

UGa was chartered first, in 1785, while UNC wasn't chartered until 1789.
But UGa's first class didn't begin until 1801. UNC was the only university in the United States that awarded degrees as a public institution in the eighteenth century. Just an interesting little piece of info... |
